What is it:

This service provides non-medical personal care services to clients in the home setting through the assignment of employed Home Health Aides (HHAs). Personal care services are limited to individual assistance with/or supervision of activities of daily living, companion services, homemaker services, and reporting changes in client’s condition. Personal care services do not include skilled services.

What kind of Supports are Provided?

Home Health Aide providing Personal care services may provide the following services:

  1. Basic personal care including bathing, grooming, dressing, and assistance with toileting;
  2. Assisting with incontinence, including bed pan use, changing urinary drainage bags, protective underwear, and monitoring urine input and output;
  3. Assisting the client with transfer, ambulation, and exercise as prescribed;
  4. Assisting the client with self-administration of medication;
  5. Reading and recording temperature, pulse, and respiration;
  6. Measuring and recording blood pressure, height and weight;
  7. Observing, recording, and reporting the client’s physical condition, behavior, or appearance;
  8. Meal preparation in accordance with dietary guidelines, and assistance with eating;
  9. Implement universal precautions to ensure infection control;
  10. Tasks related to keeping the client’s living area in a condition that promotes the client’s health and comfort;
  11. Accompanying and/or transporting the client to medical and medically related appointments, to the client’s place of employment, and to recreational activities;
  12. Assisting the client at his or her place of employment;
  13. Shopping for items related to promoting the client’s nutritional status and other health needs; and
  14. Providing companion services.
